OpenAI is reportedly set to launch it’s new AI model that promises significant enhancements in the mathematical and reasoning abilities of its chatbot, ChatGPT.
According to a report from The Information, the project, codenamed Strawberry, has been in development for several months, with OpenAI keeping most of the work a secret.
The existence of this large language model was first revealed in July, and Strawberry is being positioned as a potential successor to the highly-regarded GPT-4.
The report also mentioned that Strawberry is expected to be launched this fall. OpenAI is considering different options for its release, such as introducing Strawberry as a standalone chatbot or integrating its advanced features into the existing ChatGPT platform. However, the exact rollout strategy remains uncertain.
The excitement stems from its rumored ability to handle complex mathematical and reasoning tasks. Unlike current AI models that struggle with unfamiliar problems, Strawberry is said to be capable of solving equations and logical puzzles it has never encountered before.
This development is significant because most AI models are based on deep learning systems that recognize and process patterns. When faced with symbolic or ambiguous patterns, traditional AI models often fail. Consequently, current chatbots encounter difficulties with complex mathematical problems, logical reasoning, or context-heavy inquiries.
