Mira Murati
OpenAI's ex CTO
OpenAI and ChatGPT, these name are revolutionaries. AI wouldn’t have been what it is today without them and today we’ll talk about a person without whom OpenAI wouldn’t have been what it is today.
Mira Murati, who was OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, announced her decision to step down as its CTO on Thursday, September 26, after serving the company of for more than six years.

Promoted to the role of CTO in May 2022, she has been on the most crucial figures for the company over the last decade, overseeing the development of ChatGPT and DALL-E.
She obtained a dual degree in the United States with a Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Mathematics from Colby College and a Bachelor of Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College and before joining OpenAI, she worked at Tesla where she oversaw the development of Model X, one of the biggest innovations of Tesla.
In her letter to OpenAI, she said that she is taking a break to make enough time and space to explore things.
The departure comes at a time when various top level execs like Ilya have already left the company and at a time when the company is raising a new round which could be as big as $6.5 billion. When Altman was pushed out of OpenAI last year Murati was made interim CEO. She was one of the few who rose her voice against Altman’s behavior and some are saying that this is a conspiracy that made her quit OpenAI.
