The newest revolution brewing in the AI world is the launch of AI-enabled PCs and it’s being led by none other than one of the global PC leaders- Microsoft. They are being sold as CoPilot Plus PCs and are going to hit the markets on June 18, in partnership with OEMs like Dell, Lenovo, HP, and more. In today’s article, we try to break down what the hype is all about.

AI PCs are nothing but computers that have specially been built to enable AI features on your computer itself, instead of depending on Cloud AI services which are trained on public data and hence much less personalized.

To give you a better idea, here are three standout features of the newly launched CoPilot Plus PC -

→ Recall

‘Recall’ is a feature that screenshots every activity you perform on your computer and then allows you to retrieve it back within seconds, by using local AI models. The advantage of this feature being built into the PC is that it works across applications and websites while ensuring that all data is only stored on your device. However, despite security assurances, data experts have flagged this feature as a major privacy threat.

→ CoCreator

It allows the users to generate and refine images with AI tools by simply conveying their ideas in natural language. It builds on the existing generative AI tools, by introducing several interactive features and partnering with domain leaders like Adobe.

→ Live Captions

This feature enables PCs to convert audio from over 40 languages to English captions across all apps. According to Microsoft, this will help bring the ever globalizing world closer.

Several chip developers have hailed this development as one of the major redefining moments for the world of computers, and continue to pitch their chips for use in these AI PCs as more competitors like Google jump onto the bandwagon. Like every other technology, AI PCs will take time to become common household devices but they are surely going to do so in the coming years. A Morgan Stanley report predicts that they are expected to command over 65% of the PC market by 2028.
