The TIME Magazine released the list of Most Influential People in AI, and we’re super delighted to tell you that India has made a mark in this list, despite not having concrete AI regulations yet. The list features three prominent Indians- Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology; Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys and the Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor. Today’s article discusses the possible reasons behind these people cutting this highly-regarded list!

→ Ashwini Vaishnaw

We believe he was featured in the list because of his facilitatory role in increasing India’s contributions to the global AI landscape. This includes India chairing certain key AI conferences, the nation's commitment to AI infrastructure development, and the efforts to introduce AI regulations as soon as possible.

→ Nandan Nilekani

Apart from co-founding leading tech giant Infosys, Nandan Nilekani is also involved in EkStep and the Open Cloud Compute project, both of which have been set up to democratize access to AI services and develop digital public goods.

→ Anil Kapoor

This is probably the most shocking feature, but let us tell you why it makes sense. The renowned Bollywood celebrity recently won legal cases against AI’s unauthorized use of his likeness. So, the probable rationale for naming Anil Kapoor on the list is to propagate the idea of AI developments moving hand in hand with privacy and consent.

The list also features several other Indian-origin people, working in different arenas of Artificial Intelligence who have successfully made a mark in this field and will continue to do so in the future. Overall, it reflects the pivotal role that India is playing in the world of AI, and we at AI For You are committed to keeping you updated about the same!
