If you’re a college student like us, chances are you are already in love with Canva. If you’re unaware of Canva, you might be missing out on software similar to PowerPoint (but so much better!). We, at AI For You want to be the first ones to tell you that Canva is developing fast. While we earlier reported the new features launched by Canva in our super quick-to-read article, what’s new is that they have recently acquired Leonardo AI.
Leonardo AI is a 2-year-old Australian startup that managed to amass 19 million users in this short period. It’s a gen-AI startup intending to provide professional-grade visual assets (read: images and videos) catering to multiple industries like fashion, architecture, education, and more. Here are a few reasons why we think that this takeover is bound to be a success!
→ Complementary Offerings
Canva’s mission has always been to make design more accessible and affordable, especially for non-designers while Leonardo focuses on AI innovations in the world of visual content. This makes the two companies extremely compatible. While Canva can benefit from the tech upgrades, Leonardo will get access to Canva’s resources, scalability models, and audience.
→ Better Competitiveness
Currently, Canva’s biggest competitor is Adobe and they have already launched Firefly AI. However, it has been under scrutiny for some time due to the lack of transparency regarding the data it uses to train models. Leonardo on the other hand, claims to use only open, public source data for all its model developments. Canva’s inclusion of Leonardo could give them the upper hand as a more ethical alternative to Adobe.
→Pragmatic Way to Move Forward
Responding to the ever-growing AI market, Canva has been on an acquiring spree. In the past, it took over, Smartmocks and KaleidoAI among others and made them a part of its Magic Studio offerings. Given the technical prowess that Leonardo AI commands and its commitment to R&D, this partnership will only leave both companies better positioned in the market.
