A recent survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF) reveals a significant shift in the corporate landscape as artificial intelligence (AI) automation is expected to reshape employment. According to the survey, 41% of global companies are planning workforce reductions by 2030 due to AI advancements. The study, which examined numerous large firms worldwide, provides a clear picture of how automation is influencing business strategies and job markets.

One major takeaway is that companies are also focusing on reskilling their existing workforce. Around 77% of businesses plan to implement upskilling programs between 2025 and 2030 to help employees collaborate more effectively with AI technologies. This move marks a departure from previous WEF reports that generally predicted a positive net impact on job creation due to technology.

Specific job categories, such as postal service clerks, executive secretaries, and payroll clerks, are expected to see sharp declines due to automation. Saadia Zahidi, managing director at the WEF, highlighted how generative AI—technology capable of creating original content—across sectors is drastically altering tasks and industries.

Despite these reductions, companies are taking a dual approach, not only downsizing but also investing heavily in employee training to ensure their workforce can thrive alongside AI. This strategy aims to enhance jobs rather than eliminate them, with companies focusing on how AI can complement human creativity and decision-making, ensuring a balanced integration into daily operations. The impact of AI will unfold over the next few years, with varying timelines across industries, but companies are already prioritizing AI training and adoption.
